Tim Swanborn driving instructor is a senior IESA instructor with 35+ years of experience in professional driver training. Starting in the Royal Dutch Army, he developed strong discipline early. As a result, his training style is calm, clear, and built around safe, repeatable habits—especially when operating under pressure.

Executive security driver training

At IESA, Tim delivers executive security driver training for VIP and corporate drivers. Because many assignments involve time pressure and complex environments, he trains awareness, control, and smart decision-making. In addition, he supports drivers operating in higher-risk travel contexts where consistency and professionalism matter most.

Armored car driving (B4/B6/B7)

Armored car driving is a key part of his work. For this reason, Tim teaches B4, B6, and B7 vehicle handling with a strong focus on safety, vehicle dynamics, and real-world road conditions. Furthermore, he trains defensive driving on public roads, helping drivers improve spacing, positioning, and route choices.

Training background and experience

Over the years, Tim worked with Private Research Bureau International Security Partners and Prodrive Training (Mark and Paul Maaskant). He also founded Team Swanborn Specialist Driving Training and trained drivers from 2005 to 2015. Therefore, his methods are practical, tested, and easy to apply in daily operations.

Clients: VIP, corporate, and government

Many clients trust Tim for high-standard driver training. For example, he trains Money & Value Transport drivers and VIP chauffeurs for banks, insurers, and global firms. Moreover, he trained government services, including the Dutch Ministries of Justice (O.M., BOT, DV&O) and the DKDB. As a result, his training aligns with strict procedures, privacy requirements, and high operational standards.

Training in the Netherlands and abroad

In the Netherlands, he delivered training on public roads and in known areas such as PIVM and RDW. Outside the country, he trained drivers in Belgium (Ardennes), Germany (Eifel), and Norway. Because of this, he understands terrain, weather, and risk factors across different environments.

Personal security insight

Through ISP, Tim developed strong personal security insight. He learned from Police Academy instructors and from Hans Slaman. In addition, input from former AT Amsterdam and ex-Person Security MP staff strengthened his understanding of real protection work. Therefore, his driver training supports security tasks and VIP mobility with a protection-minded approach.
